Alex Scott will return to our screens tonight to host Children in Need.

It will be the fourth consecutive year the former footballer will host the special telethon, which airs on BBC One from Children in Need. The 39-year-old told HELLO! magazine she is honoured to have been trusted to become a regular presenter on the show.

She said: "The show is so inspiring and emotional; I will call my mum straight after. It always make me so grateful for the most important people in my life." Since she retired from football in 2018, Alex has forged a successful career in broadcasting and has been a key member of the BBC's presenting line-up.

She also led a significant career on the pitch and was an important figure in the growth of women's football. The former right back represented England from 2004 to 2017 - and also enjoyed stints at Arsenal, Birmingham and the Boston Breakers.

Scott opened up about her life in autobiography, How (Not) To Be Strong - and revealed she dated fellow Lioness, Kelly Smith, for eight years from 2005 until 2013. Speaking of their time together, Alex said she fell "madly and deeply in love" with her teammate - but she said she debated whether or not to include their romance in her memoir - as Mirror Online reports.

She said at her book launch last year: “I went back and forth on whether I’d actually be writing the chapter. But then it was one of those moments, I’m writing this book and I want to tell everything. I thought I’d be cheating you all if I didn’t put that in there. And for me, it’s like that first love story, I fell madly and deeply in love.

"And yes, there’s that heartbreak and those things, but it’s a huge part of my life and I wouldn’t go back and change that. Because that feeling of love and that excitement and what it gives you, it needed to be in there.”

The sport star has become an icon for the LGBTQ+ community and has said she wouldn’t necessarily label her sexuality, explaining that she has had relationships with both men and women. Her love life hit the headlines in 2020 when she was spotted on a date with Coronation Street star, Sam Robertson, who plays Adam Barlow.

According to The Mirror, the two enjoyed a champagne dinner date at London’s Dean Street Townhouse. An onlooker said there was a "spark", but the two are no longer dating as the former Arsenal player confirmed on the One Show last year she was "single".
