Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has secured a new role away from the soap.

The 60-year-old has played Eileen Grimshaw on the ITV soap since 2000. On today’s episode of Good Morning Britain, she revealed that she will be taking on the role of head nun Mother Superior in the UK and Ireland tour of Sister Act The Musical.

Based on the 1992 comedy movie starring Whoopi Goldberg, Sister Act, tells the story of a singer whose life takes a major turn when she witnesses a murder. Sue announced she will be joining the cast from March 2024.

On Good Morning Britain, the actress told viewers: “I’m terrified. We start rehearsing in March for a week then we’re straight into live shows.

“Like the jungle, I’ve reached 60 and I decided I’m not saying no to anything, I’m not going to let fear stand in my way.

“I’ve got confidence in myself, I’ve understood myself and I just don't care what anyone else thinks. I’ve hit 60 and I decided I’m moving forward. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
