Liverpool are back in action this week when they take on Manchester City in a top of the table clash in the Premier League.

And the fallout from Everton's 10-point deduction after an independent commission found them guilty of financial breaches continues. Speculation over possible punishments for Man City and Chelsea continue, with the rest of the league looking on.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been linked with Ansu Fati, Valentin Barco and Leroy Sane.

Trent Alexander-Arnold features in England draw

The Three Lions wrapped up their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a draw against North Macedonia, meaning they remain unbeaten in the competition with all 10 matches completed.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold played 84 minutes in total in midfield, playing on a yellow card for 28 of those. Perhaps there was room to give him more of a rest ahead of the Manchester City game, though at least there are no injuries to speak of.

Andre Trindade talks

Fulham are aiming to beat some of the Premier League's elite to the signing of Andre Trindade and remain in talks with Fluminense, say the Daily Mail.

The Londoners are said to be seeking a replacement for Joao Palhinha, who would be leaving to join Bayern Munich in January, meanwhile Liverpool are understood to not be seeking a midfield signing.

John Aldridge column: Everton were a sitting duck - now I want to see if the Premier League really mean business

"I don't really know to what extent Everton have done anything wrong. If you have done something wrong you've got to get penalised, but it has to be said - their punishment is excessive.

"The one thing I can say to Evertonians is that the team won't go down - they're too good even with the loss of 10 points.

"Back to the punishment - to me Everton were a sitting duck. I don't know how you gauge it so I guess it all comes down to what happens in future. We've all seen what's gone on with Chelsea under Roman Abramovich or everything at Man City - 115 charges."

Trent Alexander-Arnold starts for England

Trent Alexander-Arnold starts in midfield for England against North Macedonia tonight alongside Declan Rice and Phil Foden. The Three Lions are already comfortably through to the Euro 2024 finals in Germany next summer as group winners - this being their final fixture in qualifying.

Former Reds captain Jordan Henderson has been named on the bench.

Xabi Alonso's future

There has been plenty of speculation in recent months with regards to Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard remains unbeaten as Bayer Leverkusen manager this season.

This has led to suggestions he would be primed to take over at any three of his elite former clubs - Liverpool, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

Well, Munich recently appointed Thomas Tuchel so that would rule them out for the time being, and Liverpool have Jurgen Klopp contracted until 2026.

That leaves Madrid, who have Carlo Ancelotti currently on track to leave next summer, though now Ramon Alvarez de Mon of Marca freshly claims that renewal talks are 'progressing positively'.

This could leave the future open for Alonso to remain at his current club and assess the situation for a little while longer - perhaps joining Liverpool when his own contract runs out the same year as Klopp's.

Assan Ouedraogo injury

A bitter blow for 17-year-old, Liverpool-linked midfielder Assan Ouedraogo, as on international duty he has picked up an injury that is set to keep him sidelined for an unspecified amount of time.

Via Transfermarkt, he was substituted in the first half of Germany's second group match at the Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia. The problem was later found to be a anterior syndesmosis tear in his right foot, the recovery from which will not be able to have a timeframe placed upon it until January 2024.

Ansu Fati eyed

Liverpool are one of three Premier League clubs keeping an eye on Ansu Fati for when his loan at Brighton ends next summer, say Football Transfers.

Arsenal and Manchester United are the others said to be sniffing around the man on loan from Barcelona, who has scored four goals in 13 appearances since arriving in England.

Andre Trindade could complete transfer 'in the coming days'

Journalist Jorge Nicola made the claim over the weekend that Andre Trindade could join Fulham for €30 million (£25.5m) 'in the coming days'.

The London club were named as one of those originally interested in the Brazilian, even before Liverpool's name was thrown into the ring during the summer.

Although an exit from Fluminense appears likely, the midfielder is still yet to finish the Brazilian Serie A campaign, or compete in the Club World Cup just before Christmas, so a move in November would come as somewhat of a shock.

PSG fans have their say in Kylian Mbappe poll

Kylian Mbappe will have a big decision to make about his future in the coming months, with Liverpool one team that have been dragged into the conversation time and time again over the years.

His Paris Saint-Germain contract runs out in 2024, meaning he will have to renew or move to a new club on a free - one that is capable of meeting his wage demands.

If the French club's supporters could have their say though, a new poll by Odoxa, on behalf of Winamax and RTL, as reported by Football Transfers, has revealed that a strong majority of 78 percent would like him to stay at the Parc des Princes. That's no surprise really considering this is a 24-year-old who has already scored 300 goals in professional football.

On the other hand, 71 percent expect he will opt to leave at the end of the current season.

Man City decision could see all hell break loose as Liverpool watch compensation claims

"The tone of Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak in the club’s 2022/23 financial statement was one of triumph and celebration.

"On the back of a treble-winning campaign, City posted record breaking numbers, seeing their revenue leap forward by £100m to £712.8m from £613m for the previous 12-month period. The club’s profit also almost doubled, from £41.7m in 2021/22 to £80.4m for 2022/23.

"It was helped in no small part by the increase in broadcast money from their run to the final, and subsequent victory in the Champions League final, as well as the Premier League’s improved TV deal overseas. But it was heavily influenced by the record £309.5m in commercial revenues that the club was able to deliver, up £32m year on year."

Youssoufa Moukoko options

Following on from TEAMtalk's earlier report about how promising German striker Youssofa Moukoko will be considering his future at Borussia Dortmund ahead of the upcoming transfer window, they have also analysed the state of the play with regards to his Premier League suitors.

Liverpool and Newcastle are said to have held an interest as far back as 12 months ago with scouting missions taking place in that time. However, both do not see the Dortmund man as a key target ahead of other problems that need solving in their squads.

Chelsea are then claimed to be monitoring his availability, whilst if a loan deal could be struck that would allegedly bring other London clubs Crystal Palace and Fulham into the battle.

Manu Kone replacement

According to BILD, Borussia Monchengladbach have begun their search for a replacement defensive midfielder for Manu Kone, either for January or summer.

The Frenchman was linked with Liverpool in the early stages of the summer before an injury sustained in the Under-21 European Championships. The latest report suggests he was 'close to leaving' Germany to an unspecified destination if it had not been for this unfortunate setback - now it appears to could finally be on the move in the next two transfer windows.

Dominik Szoboszlai told he's like Lionel Messi 'at his best' after Liverpool man's wondergoal

Dominik Szoboszlai has been compared to Lionel Messi after his latest heroics for Hungary.

The Liverpool midfielder was pivotal as he helped his country secure their place at Euro 2024. A 3-1 victory over Montenegro saw Hungary top their qualification group and Szoboszlai was at the heart of a memorable night in Budapest.

After initially falling a goal behind, Szoboszlai put Hungary back on level terms, midway through the second half, as he jinked his way past defenders to fire the ball into the far corner. Wearing the captain’s armband, the Liverpool man remarkably doubled his tally, just two minutes later, after charging up the pitch and combining with striker Martin Adam to slot the ball in at the near post.

A late goal from midfielder Adam Nagy completed the scoreline and Szoboszlai was quick to celebrate with fans in the Puskas Arena, notably downing a shot of palinka as he rejoiced at reaching a major tournament. It was a game that put Szoboszlai’s leadership abilities on full display and Hungary goalkeeper Denes Dibusz paid an incredible compliment to the 23-year-old after the final whistle.

Speaking to ViaPlay before Sunday's Euro 2024 qualifier against Norway, Andy Robertson provided an update on the shoulder injury he sustained against Spain last month.

I'm getting there, slowly and surely. Surgery was a success which was the main thing, no complications from it or anything like that.

It's so far so good, three weeks since my surgery now so everything is progressing well, I have just got to take it bit by bit and week by week. Everything has went well up to this point and hopefully that continues. Hopefully, before we know it I'll be back on the grass.

Mohamed Salah's Saudi decision as Liverpool contract question emerges

In just 42 short days, the January transfer window will open. And while that will prompt an intense month of speculation, it also opens the door to something else.

At Liverpool, supporters will eagerly wait to see if Jurgen Klopp plans to sign a new left-sided centre-back or holding midfielder. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah’s departure to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, amid ongoing uncertainty regarding his long-term future, will perhaps prompt fresh debate regarding a potential long-term successor.

For the record, if you are holding out hope for a new number six to walk through the doors at Anfield, you are likely to be setting yourself up for disappointment. Club sources suggest that there is at present no desire to recruit a midfielder in the New Year.

Only time will tell if such a stance remains unchanged, with it not yet known if the Reds intend to be active in the mid-season transfer window or not. They have strengthened in the last four January windows at least, signing Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Ozan Kabak, Ben Davies, and Takumi Minamino.

But regardless of potential incomings, this time of year always presents fresh scrutiny on the future of those entering the final six months of their Liverpool contracts. Come January 1, they are free to discuss pre-contract agreements with overseas clubs, and edge a step closer to the exit door.
