A broken down skip wagon has closed a major road in Wirral, which is causing huge delays.

Merseyside Police were called to Barnston Road, near Gills Lane in Barnston, Wirral, just after 5pm on Tuesday, November 21, following reports of a broken down skip wagon. Officers have now closed the road while they wait for the vehicle to be recovered.

Witnesses in the area are reporting major delays, as a police diversion is in place. Officers are asking people to avoid the area while they attend the incident.

A spokesperson from the force said: "We received a report just before 5pm of a skip wagon that has broken down along Barnston Road, near to Gills Lane. Officers are at the scene.

"Road closures are in place by the Fox and Hounds pub while we deal with this incident. We ask motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

"Thank you for your patience."
